LLEAF TECHNOLOGY

Our proprietary films provide plants with a more efficient energy source by shifting sunlight towards the red side of the spectrum, which plants can photosynthesise better.
We assess variables including target crop, location, climate, and structure to provide the best solution. Our patented fluorescent dyes are incorporated into plastic films, and installed or retrofitted into protected cropping structures.

SCIENCE

Started from UNSW and backed by years of extensive research and trials, science is at LLEAF’s core. Our recently opened LLEAF Solar Lab is our custom research facility to test films in 6 contained chambers with different crops, lighting, and climates.

ENGINEERING

LLEAF is constantly innovating with new applications of our technology. At our research facility, we trial new products and develop the practical side of LLEAF such as installation methods.

MONITORING

Monitoring of light intensity and spectrum informs critical decisions at LLEAF and for growers. We have developed a LLEAF Monitoring unit – a connected device that allows growers to continually monitor light and other relevant variables.
How LLEAF works.
LLEAF Films incorporate a photo-luminescent dye that absorbs low-value green light, and emits additional light on the red side of the spectrum, which plants use more efficiently. Crops receive shading from damaging excess light, but also receive more of the light needed for efficient growth. With no electricity usage, and a lifespan of 10+ years, LLEAF Films provide continuous benefits with minimal ongoing costs.
Growers have varying light requirements depending on their crops, climate, and targets. The emission spectrum of LLEAF film is customisable. Small differences in spectrum can have significant impacts from crop to crop. As a result, LLEAF has a library of films that can be customised to suit the different needs of growers of various crops and geographical locations. The LLEAF team offers pre-sale customer fit-out plans and customised light recipes for greenhouses, as well as after sales support with installation advice, growth monitoring, and recommendations for optimisation.
Benefits of Lleaf.

INCREASED YIELDS

LLEAF Films provide crops with more of the light they use most efficiently, leading to yield increase of 10-35%.
SHORTENED GROWING CYCLES

Faster growth leads to shorter growing cycles, increasing the number of crops that can be grown in a given season. Additionally, LLEAF films allow growers to explore the options of out-of-season and out-of-region cropping.

EVEN GROWTH

The diffusion of light provided by LLEAF films distributes the light evenly across the growing area, allowing for uniform, predictable growth.

IMPROVED CROP QUALITY

LLEAF Films can improve the size, flavour, colour, and other attributes of crops, allowing growers to charge a premium for the produce.

Fluorescent Dyes
LLEAF develops, patents and manufactures a series of dyes which, when exposed to sunlight, fluoresce – both absorbing and emitting light.
Fluorescent Plastics
LLEAF’s proprietary dyes are added to transparent plastics creating fluorescent plastics that also diffuse light – reducing shadows and delivering light more evenly to plants.
Spectrum Shifting
Molecules of dye absorb photons of light predominantly from the green part of the spectrum and emit photons of light predominantly in the red part of the spectrum – shifting the spectrum for more optimal absorption by chlorophyll.
Installed Inside Greenhouses
Robust and long lasting plastics can be easily retrofitted to existing greenhouse structures by screwing, clamping or hanging.
Optimising Sunlight for Plants
Reducing the low value light and increasing high value light – protecting from sunburn while powering increased growth.
